Thought-full Thursday: The good that lies beyond

Judgments prevent us from seeing the good that lies beyond appearances. ~Wayne Dyer

Great leaders set aside their judgments and assumptions to see possibility in others and become a catalyst for their development. When we judge and assume, we thwart people from living up to their greatest potential. The antidote to judging and assuming is to slow down, listen, to find the good that lies beneath the surface in others; and then to gently guide them to bring the good out into the open.

  • Who have you judged unfairly, perhaps without seeing beneath what you’ve deemed as “bad”?
  • Start a conversation with them today. Listen deeply, ask questions, get to know them in a way that you haven’t before.
  • What good do you see in them now?
  • How might you gently guide them to bring the good out of hiding?

  • Great post, Mary Jo! I find the best leaders are able to get out of their own heads and into the heads (and hearts) of the people they’re leading. Others seem to think that “listening” means “do what I tell you!”
