Thought-full Thursday: Passion and Enthusiasm

Every Thursday, we provide you with a thoughtful way to coach yourself – something all leaders need to do. I was thrilled when I learned that Jennifer Miller (whom I met through blogging and Twitter lives and works about an hour away from me. We were able to meet in person soon thereafter. I love her blog on workplace dynamics which often touches on some of the same topics I write about. Jennifer is insightful and an experienced consultant – as well as a great writer. So take five and enjoy Jennifer’s quote and reflect on the questions that follow. Your comments and answers to the questions are always welcome!

“Don’t be a blasé leader.” Jennifer V. Miller

•    What are you passionate about in your organization, your job, and your leadership?

•    Do your followers know of your passion? Is it important for them to see know what you are excited about?

  • How will you show your enthusiasm?

  • Kelly Wilson:

I am passionate about finding that special unique strength or talent each member of my team has and then letting them know I notice. I think too often people have heard from managers about the traits, skills, they need to work on, why not take those things they “best” at and remind them? shine that spotlight on their strengths! I encourage peer mentoring & try to partner new people with different members of the team on a rotation as part of their training. I find that most people are eager to share and help each other.

  • Kelly, we need more leaders like you. It seems that your emphasis is definitely around leveraging your team member’s strengths. It must be a joy to work for you. Thanks for your comments.

  • Jennifer V. Miller:

Wow, Mary Jo– thanks! I’m honored to be included in your Thoughtful Thursday series.
