I also see this as an opportunity to introduce double-loop thinking to the negativity and help change the behavior and/or culture. (Isn't a critical attitude an open pathway to change?) For example, respond to, "We can't possibly accomplish that," with, "Why do we want to accomplish that? Can you improve on it or maybe you have another idea?" Good observations. I pride myself on actually constantly maintaing a positive attitude and making trying to see the bright side of everything. The best thing I have noticed about this is that it can be so contagious in the workplace. People feed off of each others energy, why not make it positve.
